collection images: marchesa, resort

as one of the leading formal evening wear design labels of the modern fashion age, marchesa presents their pre-season resort collection for 2011. experimentation with prints & tribal design patterns were seen for with the set & like many marchesa collections in the past, the beauty was in the details. providing range over cohesion as far as palette was concerned, the collections design details drew relativity from one look to the next. empire waists were seen alongside short dresses & long gowns marked the collection climax. adorned dresses & heavy beading, practically a marchesa design signature, the collection channeled glamour as expected & readily showcased refined womenswear. both powerful & elegant.

collection images: malandrino, resort

i was very pleased to see that sessilee lopez opened & closed the malandrino show for the resort 2011 pre-season. though my excitement for the model casting surpassed my enthusiasm for the actual collection. presented at the museum of modern art, i felt a lot of creative reference to alexander mcqueen’s plato’s atlantis collection when going through each look. stylistically, i feel like something about the collection was lacking; i’ve been much more impressed by past collections by catherine malandrino. i will commend the clarity in vision of this collection & applaud the showcase of cohesion throughout.

fall collections, new york: 3.1 phillip lim

the phillip lim 3.1 fall collection produced a more gentle aspect of fall fashion. while other collections boated with metallics, neons & overdramatized black palettes, lim opts for soft blue with hushed pinks & flowing neutrals. another collection paying close attention to the presentation of textile, i enjoyed the relaxed silouettes within this set. ankle boots & tassled open toes pranced down the runway & one particular shoe that was pure devastation was the thigh high satin boot in look no.13 – get in to it. or even the thigh high suede pair with the double buckled straps from look no. 15, so dope. seemingly representing the transition of fall to winter, i loved the soft take amidst all the depth & overindulgent designs of some of the other collections. the lim collections sits between overdone opulence & new school minimalism. a solid collection for the fall season, im very excited to see the response to these garments editorially as well as commercially.

fall collections, new york: donna karan

at the top of the fashion helm, with many of the greats, sits donna karan. a marketing monster & timeless designer, karan blew the frame out for fall fashion week. the collection presented the most incredible, if not the illest, all black everything collection i’ve seen this season.  slight incorporations of white, teal & purple were featured but headlining were devastatingly dope black designs. while black can allow a collection to produce an elevated level of uniformity, it can also drown design details out- this was not the case with donna karan‘s fall collection. incredibly chic designs were seen in the collections dresses & coats. amazing structure was represented with this collection & i for one, fell off my chair after seeing how jawdroppingly gorgeous this collection was. donna karan solidifies her postion as a lead designer, even at the dawn of this new design age. as we enter a new era of achitectual minimalism, donna presents undeniable chic for the fall season. an amazing set, i am extremely excited to see that a designer of karan’s stature is continually raising the bar. donna is & has always been a bad ass bitch. elegance, sophistication, class & all things regal- donna is the chick to look up to. new school heads stand back, the boss bitch is here.

fall menswear, presentation: balmain homme

picking up where they left off last season, the balmain menswear division centers their conceptual focus on the relaxed & work aesthetic. i love the casual elements seen in this collection; very distinct differences are seen with the menswear collection when comparing to the labels womenswear collections. relaxed & still every bit as chic, the collection- though small, is dope.

fall menswear, runway: emporio armani

the emporio armani collection provides looks for just about every occasion possible. the collection starts with a bit of ski travel attire then winds down to formal looks suitable for an evening out on the town. the ski/snow portion of the collection hosts bright colors, while the evening looks are seen mostly in black with interesting shots of royal blue & purple. a massive collection of nearly one hundred looks; armani threw it all on the runway this season. some of our favorite male models were spotted for this show; were you able to ID them based on the fall show packages?

pre-fall collections: jason wu

i love the pre-fall collection from jason wu. we see a blue, green & black color palette with hints of metallic. the construction of the clothes is heavy on layering & manages to provide a surprisingly chic collection. jason wu has really established himself as a worthy designer in the high end market. for me, he had to work hard to escape the shadow of the whole ‘michelle obama hype’ with the white inauguration dress. his pre-fall collection proves him a worthy player beyond any form of false hope or presidential hype. the collection is very marketable to varied age brackets & the color palette is perfect for fall. again, as many collections for this pre-fall season, the collection is very waist concious. i love it.
